Note taking using Note Pad

If you usually copy data from websites for later use etc, you can use this trick for NOTEPAD under any windows.

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Write .LOG (in uppercase) in the first line of the file.
  3. Press Enter Key
  4. Save the file under any name (Extention should be .txt which is default and you don't have to set unless you haven't touched system settings)
  5. Double-click the file to open it and notice that Notepad appends the current date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor on the line after.
  6. Type your notes and then save and close the file.
  7. Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process, appending the time and date to the end of the file and placing the cursor below it.

KB260563 suggests this feature has been around since Windows 98.
